The cutting edge technology behind some of Pentland Brand’s most iconic products is on show this week at Somerset House, alongside other celebrated designers such as Jaguar and Swarovski.
Innovations such as Speedo’s hydrophobic LZR Pulse fabric and Berghaus’s Hyper 100, the lightest three-layer waterproof jacket in the world, have taken centre stage at the Materialise installation, part of Design Frontiers 2017.
A group of designers from across the business, led by Creative Director Katie Greenyer, have been inspired by traditional manufacturing processes to create an exhibition that strips back our most iconic items to their primary elements.
Materialise is a celebration of individual components that piece together in perfect harmony, creating products that help athletes swim faster, climb higher and train harder – and a photo of the installation has even been chosen as the holding image on Somerset House’s webpage.
“We’ve created a ‘cathedral of product’ to highlight the innovation of our global brands at Pentland,” says Katie Greenyer, Creative Director. “We’re a British family business employing some of the best design talent in the world. At Pentland, we break design frontiers every day with our products, and want to inspire other creatives to seek us out.”
Situated in the atmospheric Chapel Room at Somerset House, the installation marries the incredible cutting-edge technology and design work created at Pentland by displaying it in an innovative fashion.
Dramatic light walls illuminate products from Canterbury, Speedo, Berghaus, Lacoste and Mitre, while a rotating ‘sky rail’, suspended from the cavernous ceiling, displays the 2D pattern design for each product – all in an arresting shade of siren orange.
The exhibition is running as part of London Design Festival 2017 until 24th September, and free tickets to visit Design Frontiers are available here.
In 2016, Pentland’s partnership with In Kind Direct meant that 636 charities benefitted from Pentland products – helping communities across the UK to lead healthier more active lives.
