Speedo, the world’s leading swimwear brand, has embraced girl power with the signing of 21-year-old Olympic medalist and college swim star Elizabeth Beisel, and the contract renewal of 12-time Olympic medalist and 20-time World Champion Natalie Coughlin.
Beisel has signed an agreement with the brand until 2017. She has worn Speedo throughout her swim career in college and now joins Team Speedo with her sights set on making her third Olympic team for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
Beisel is a dominant force in the individual medley and backstroke events. In the 2012 Olympic Games in London she took home silver in the 400m IM and bronze in the 200m back, setting new personal bests in both events and cementing her position on the world stage. Beisel said: “Speedo is the industry leader for all things swimming. I couldn’t ask for a better partner as I begin my professional career. I’m very excited to be part of the Speedo family.”
By comparison, Coughlin has been a Team Speedo star since 2004 and is the most decorated female swimmer in FINA World Championship history, also winning a medal in every single Olympic event she’s ever entered.
Coughlin is one of the most versatile female swimmers of all time, she has worn Speedo swimwear her entire career. “I’m excited to continue my longtime partnership with Speedo. I have been a part of the Speedo family since I started swimming professionally – and wore Speedo long before that. Their support both in and out of the pool has helped me become the swimmer I am today.”
Sean Hastings, Vice President of Product and Marketing at Speedo International said: “Natalie has been a valued member of Team Speedo for ten years and we’re looking forward to continuing that partnership. She’s an inspiring and accomplished swimmer and we expect to celebrate even more medal wins with her. It’s also great to welcome Elizabeth into the Speedo family. With the title of six-time U.S. National Champion she has achieved some amazing career highs already and we’re looking forward to working with her as she goes on to better them.”
As a member of Team Speedo, Beisel joins Coughlin as part of an athlete advisory group to Speedo Aqualab, the brand’s Research and Development Team, and will train and compete in Speedo suits, accessories and related gear.
