Speedo has announced a new partnership with Team UK for the Invictus Games Sydney 2018. As swimwear sponsor, Speedo will be kitting out Team UK’s swimmers in the Olympic medal-winning Fastskin performance swimwear.
The Invictus Games, for wounded, injured and ill servicemen and women, use the healing power of sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for those who serve their country. ‘Invictus’ is Latin for ‘unconquered’ and it embodies the fighting spirit and resilience of our service personnel and veterans.
Rob Hicking, Brand Director for Speedo, said: “The Invictus Games are at the very forefront of empowerment through sport, highlighting the resilience of our inspiring and brave service men and women. Through this partnership, we would like to demonstrate our support to an event that encourages recovery and rehabilitation… and a team that inspires everyone with their courage and optimism. We wish the swimmers, and indeed all athletes, the best of luck in their incredible Invictus Games’ journey!”
The swimming team’s extensive training saw them visit the Pentland Brands London HQ, where they were put through their paces in the Speedo pool. The training camp included a session run by Speedo ambassador and double silver Olympic medalist Jazz Carlin.
Jayne Kavanaugh, Help for Heroes’ Performance Pathway Manager and Team UK Chef de Mission commented: “We are grateful and excited to have Speedo on board to help our swimmers achieve their goals at this year’s Invictus Games and beyond. The competitors are incredibly motivated and excited to train and compete in a world leading swimwear brand.”
The Games will take place from October 20 to 27, attracting 500 competitors from 18 countries to compete in 11 medal sports. The partnership with Speedo will also be continued into the Invictus Games The Hague 2020.
