Canterbury announced today that English cross-code sensation Sam Burgess has become their latest high-profile ambassador. Burgess will endorse the brand’s comprehensive range of rugby and lifestyle off-field clothing.
The new deal is a result of Canterbury’s dedication and commitment to player representation across the world and across both codes of rugby. Burgess is the latest to join Canterbury’s growing team of brand ambassadors which includes Australia and Toulon utility back James O’Connor, England and Leicester Tigers lock Geoff Parling, England and Leeds Rhinos half-back Kevin Sinfield, ex-England 7s captain Rob Vickerman, Women’s Rugby World Cup winner Danielle Waterman and former England Rugby World Cup winner, Will Greenwood.
Dewsbury-born Burgess is currently one of four brothers playing rugby league in Australia’s NRL for the South Sydney Rabbitohs, but will cross codes to join Bath in the Aviva Premiership in October. A powerful runner, tackler and try-scorer he was considered one of rugby league’s hottest properties and his signing represented a major coup for the south west club.
Canterbury ambassador, Sam Burgess said: “It’s fantastic to have signed with the world’s leading rugby brand at such an important stage of my career. I’m looking forward to a big finish to the season with the Rabbitohs and then to getting stuck into my new career at Bath. To have Canterbury behind me is a real boost.”
Canterbury CEO, Chris Stephenson said: “It is real privilege for us to have Sam on board as the latest recruit to the Canterbury family. He is an amazing player at a fascinating stage of his career. Personally I can’t wait to see him back playing in the UK and I really hope he can push for an England place in next year’s Rugby World Cup.”
