Pentland Brands, sponsors of New Designers 2014, were delighted to announce the winner of the New Designers Pentland Award at a special awards preview evening on Wednesday 2nd July.
The New Designers Exhibition, currently in its 29th year, showcases the work of over 3,000 talented design graduates from the UK’s leading art and design courses. The New Designers Pentland Award is presented to the most exciting designer exhibiting at the event, with the prize being a three month internship at Pentland Brands’ headquarters in Finchley, London.
The panel of six judges were made up of individuals from Pentland, all involved in the creative marketing and product design processes across the portfolio of brands.
The judges were thrilled to present Matthew McMorran with the award for his unique alpine ski boot creation, allowing skiers the freedom to move from the ski slope to the après ski areas with ease.
Katie Greenyer, said: “Matthew created a strong product based on thorough research and consumer insight. He showed a fantastic understanding of the current market place, as well as a sound knowledge of how this product and its USP stand out. This product fuses traditional craftsmanship with forward-thinking cutting-edge technology in a truly unique way.”
Matthew, who graduates in Product Design from Sheffield Hallam University of Arts, added: “I’m absolutely ecstatic with the opportunity offered via the internship. It’s nice to get recognition after all the hard work I’ve put in – it’s really pleasing as a designer.’”
