For Spring/Summer 16, Kickers collaborates with NEWGEN designer Danielle Romeril to create their very first collection together, unveiled at London Fashion Week on September 20th. Romeril’s eponymous label exudes a vibrant, relaxed, yet considered aesthetic. Though a focus on extraordinary fabric combinations and surface details, Romeril upholds an innovative and fresh approach to contemporary design.
Fusing her style with classic Kickers silhouettes and iconic chunky soles uncovered from the brand’s 90’s archives, Romeril’s signature textile combinations result in off-kilter and unexpected Kickers sandal designs.
Everything from colour palette, textures and fabric choices tie in seamlessly with Danielle’s Spring/Summer 16 collection, partially inspired by Vivanne Sassen’s geometric and chromatic photography. Together, Kickers and Danielle carefully selected the colour scheme; white, black, pink lady and vibrant green marry together across the signature details of the Kickers shoe.
Layers of cut raffia create a new summer fur contrasting against the sweetest of pink nubucks, while raw-fray cut work leather combines with paint speckled or colour blocked rubber soles. Silhouettes include a sporty flat sandal on the Kick Hi sole and a mule on a block heel. These bold sandals are a perfect blend of contrasts – a collision of two design aesthetics – part punk, part prim, these designs are a true collaboration.
“I dug deep into the Kickers archives and was really inspired by the shoes of my youth. Pink lady lace-ups from the 90’s and vibrant green mules all on the chunky kickers sole really caught my attention. I wanted to vibe off the sub-cultural references that have made Kickers such a big part of the street uniform of my youth. The Danielle Romeril girl is pretty relaxed, she likes to throw on a pair of flats with a statement look and just go – she isn’t a ‘try hard’. So Kickers is the perfect fit from that perspective. I focused on texture and exciting surface treatments to inject the Danielle Romeril aesthetic onto the iconic Kickers sole. The cut work leathers and raffia add a craft element similar to my most special pieces” – Danielle Romeril.
Key styles from this capsule collection will be available to purchase in the Spring of 2016. The sandals will be complete with a Kickers fleurette but also a bespoke Danielle Romeril fleurette, and a special edition shoe bag.
