This week, Endura welcomes the cycling world to its homeland, Scotland, for the first ever UCI World Championships (3rd to 13th August). Here are Endura’s top five things to do during the Championships:
1. Get into the Scottish spirit
Endura’s campaign, ‘Welcome to Enduraland’, welcomes the world to its homeland of Scotland, paying homage to the rugged landscapes, tempestuous weather and unique scenery that make Scotland the world’s best cycling location. The video kicks off with an auld bodach dragging himself through a Highland bog to give some advice on Scottish riding. Watch the video here.
2. Dress the part
To showcase their design and manufacturing expertise, the Endura Custom team – who design and make over 50,000 garments in Livingston every year – have created a special Enduraland jersey. The limited-edition multisport t-shirt is 100% made by and in Scotland and will be available at the Endura stand at Nevis Range Expo, For William, during the Mountainbike Downhill World Championships 3rd-5th August and then later on endurasport.com.
3. Meet Endura’s superstars
Nine of Endura’s talented athletes from around the world will race at the championship event: Andreas Kolb from Austria, Rachel Atherton, Charlie Hatton, Dom Platt and Mikayla Parton from Great Britain and Florian Grengbo from France, and the Pump for Peace team made up of Tumelo Makae from Lesotho, Faranak Partoazar from Iran and Unathi Nxumalo from South Africa.
Supporters can visit Endura at the expo at Nevis Range for the Mountain Bike Downhill World Champs. Drop into their stand for giveaways, the Enduraland jersey and collectibles, and the opportunity to meet some its superstars, from the friendly event team to famous riders like Atherton Racing Team, Kriss Kyle, and Danny MacAskill.
Supporters will also have the opportunity to join Trash Free Trails and Pump for Peace at the Innerleithen Trails Car Park for a community litter pick up to help keep the trails clean.
4. Revive a forgotten legend
Experience some unique Scottish history through an ambitious project – the recreation of Kirkpatrick Macmillan’s pedal bicycle from 1839. The bike – a modern re-imagination of the original made from wood – has been brought to life by boat builder Tim Loftus and experienced bicycle manufacturer Steven Shand.
On the 10th of August the bike will travel from Thornhill to Glasgow (a route Macmillan allegedly rode almost two centuries ago) with Endura athletes, led by Mikayla Parton, and other special guests. Head to the finish at the Riverside Museum in Glasgow to see the bike up close.
