Pentland Brands is partnering with The Churchill Centre and ARTS Thread to deliver the third annual Churchill Design Award. This year, Pol Roger Champagne joins the partnership, offering a new and unique brief.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Sir Winston Churchill’s death, entrants will be challenged to design a label and presentation box for Churchill’s most favoured drink – Pol Roger Champagne.
The brief for this year’s competition, which is open to BA or MA students and recent graduates, will be to design a label and box for a magnum of Pol Roger Brut Vintage 2006. The design could be celebration of the orator’s life or a tribute to his achievements and vast interests, and should ultimately present Churchill’s life in a contemporary and unique way.
Last year’s winner Emily May, a textile design student from Falmouth University, captured the essence of Churchill’s unique style and personality in a beautiful hand illustrated scarf collection. After an initial two-month placement with Pentland, the name behind some of the world’s best sports, outdoor and fashion brands, Emily has now been offered an 11-month contact within the company’s Design Talent team.
“Working at Pentland has without a doubt been the richest learning experience of my life. I came to the Design team having produced a scarf for the Churchill competition but I’m not just a textile designer anymore, I’ve now developed new skills in graphic design, interior design, illustration, and artwork production. It’s so exciting to think that in the next few months I will have gained even more.”
Winners of this year’s competition will receive a cash prize and the chance of paid placement at Pentland. They will also be invited on a trip to the Pol Roger Vineyard in Épernay, France.
