Today Canterbury and Cardiff Blues unveiled the new 2014/15 European shirt to supporters attending the region’s Family Fun Day at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park.
The design
The green shirt has been influenced by club sponsor DS Smith, a recycling company that focuses on adopting solutions that lead to zero waste. Their tag line ‘Turning The Blues Green’ is printed across the back of the new shirt in a bid to encourage the club and the fans into a more ‘green’ way of thinking.
The players ‘Test’ shirt is designed to be worn tight whilst allowing flexibility, movement and comfort. The side seams have been brought to the back to reduce the stress point of seam breakage and the cuffs are constructed from a Nylon/Spandex blend ensuring a streamlined fit around the players’ bicep.
Adorning the chest are two embroidered logos of both the Canterbury logo and the Cardiff Blues emblem whilst the transfixed sponsors logos are on the front centre, arms, shoulders and back panel. This shirt is finished off nicely with the inspiring motto ‘Strength Through Unity’ on the inside of the collar.
The technology
Canterbury continues to push the boundaries of innovation in their rugby kit; the new Blues shirt is engineered using Canterbury’s high performance fabric, which delivers optimum strength and moisture management, for a lightweight and comfortable feel. The fabric also delivers stretch, allowing a tight fit to help players evade tackles without restricting movement.
The collar, ‘Loop 21.1’, is an evolution of Canterbury’s signature neckline which has been developed for enhanced durability, this plus triple-bar tacks are configured to increase the strength of the shirt at the usual vulnerable areas, vastly reducing the risk of rips and tears.
The campaign
Canterbury worked closely with Cardiff Blues to develop a campaign that connects the passion the supporters’ display for the team, ‘Be Bold, Be Proud, Be Blue’ will be the focal message for the 2014/15 season accompanied by the hashtag #WeAreCardiffBlues which reinforces the strong community at the club. Canterbury have also released a twist on the new campaign with a tongue in cheek reference to the new European green kit, ‘Be Bold, Be Proud, Be Green’ will be used across the Canterbury and club social media channels.
