Speedo supports Special Olympics GB 2013 national summer games

Speedo has announced that it is an official supporter of the Special Olympics GB 2013 National Summer Games, which take place in Bath from 28th August until 1st September.

The Special Olympics GB National Summer Games are held every four years and provide a huge life changing and confidence inspiring opportunity for children and adults with intellectual disabilities to compete at a national level. The Games will be the largest multi-sports disability event of the year with 1,700 athletes competing in 12 different sports during three days of competition.

Swimming is one of the sports being contested and Speedo’s support for the Games reinforces its commitment to inspiring people to swim – at all levels, ages and abilities whilst demonstrating that swimming is a fun and inclusive activity which can be enjoyed by everyone.

“Swimming is a very popular sport among our Special Olympics clubs which meet around the country all year round to provide coaching and competition opportunities for people with intellectual disabilities,” explains Karen Wallin, Chief Executive of Special Olympics GB. “It is a very accessible sport and we will have almost 400 Special Olympics athletes competing in the swimming pool during the Games. It is the largest of our Games competitions. Having a big brand sponsor, like Speedo, supporting our Summer Games means a lot to our athletes”.
