Speedo has launched the ‘Outsiders Club’, which celebrates the joy of swimming with the people who love to do it, with a campaign that captures the inspirational stories of real outdoor swimmers and their love of the water.
With participation in outdoor swimming increasing threefold over the past two years, the Speedo Outsiders Club shines a light on the joy gained from swimming outside, and, most importantly, the friendships and communities that have formed from a shared love of the water.
Earlier this year, Speedo UK and the Pentland Creative Agency reached out to the outdoor swimming communities across the UK and invited them to open casting calls. They received hundreds of responses and subsequently created a three-part series for the Outsiders Club campaign.
Shot in Cornwall, England, by photographer Lulu Ash, and Outsiders Club videographer, Jason Hearn, it’s hoped the incredible stories will inspire others to take up and enjoy the freedom and benefits of outdoor swimming.
The Outsiders Club three-part series, which will run across 13 Speedo Instagram channels globally, includes:
- ‘Lido Life’ – featuring 15 swimmers at the Jubilee Pool in Penzance
- ‘High Summer’ – featuring @thera.sea, a community of wild swimmers with a focus on improving mental health, at Little Fistral beach in Newquay.
- ‘Early Autumn Sea Swims’ – featuring swimmers from the The Blue Tits community, which has over 6,000 members worldwide, at Perranporth beach.
A 2021 report by Outdoor Swimmer revealed that 45 percent of swimmers increased how much they swam outside in 2020, with health benefits and the rise of social media suggested as reasons for the surge in interest.
Speedo is a champion for the outdoor swimming movement and in 2022 will extend the Outsider Club campaign by capturing stories from more outdoor swimming communities around the world.
