New from Berghaus for spring/summer 2017 are the Fast Climb jacket and pant. Extending the renowned Extrem range with lightweight, durable summer gear, the Fast Climb products are softshells designed to give protection from the elements, while providing high levels of freedom of movement and comfort during long days on the crags. Building on the success of winter 2016 products like the Extrem 8000 Pro and Ramche 2.0 jackets, Berghaus has engineered the Fast Climb jacket and pant with the same focus on innovation and attention to detail.
The Berghaus Fast Climb jacket and pant are made from a very stretchy softshell fabric, blocked with Schoeller® Keprotec® and Kevlar® reinforcements in key wear areas. Together, the main double weave fabric (88% polyamide, 12% elastane, 200g/m2) and Keprotec® offer unrestricted freedom of movement, thanks to four-way stretch and Berghaus’ advanced pattern cutting. The materials also boast high levels of breathability, and fast wicking properties. A durable water repellent treatment fends off showers, while stretch Kevlar® panelling in the forearms of the jacket and knees of the pant protects against rock abrasion when hand jamming or crack climbing. Berghaus has put both of these top of the range softshells through an exhaustive outdoor testing programme ahead of launch.
Built to meet the clearly expressed needs of climbers, the precisely placed features on the Fast Climb jacket include: A helmet compatible adjustable hood; two raised zipped pockets that sit clear of a climbing harness and also allow for venting; an internal ’phone specific pocket to keep a device secure while on the move; diamond gusset under the arms to enhance freedom of movement while climbing; adjustable cuffs and full hem adjustment to prevent rain and wind ingress. The Fast Climb jacket weighs in at just 450g (size medium) and retails at £160.
Features on the Fast Climb pant include: Articulation across the knees and a diamond gusset to improve freedom of movement while climbing; elasticated waistband with reduced bulk for better comfort when used with a climbing harness, cut higher across the back for added protection during dynamic moves; mesh backed vents at the thighs; adjustable calf and ankle zips to reduce volume around the lower leg and allow visibility of precision footwork when climbing. The Fast Climb pant weighs 350g (medium) and retails at £140.
The Fast Climb range is part of Berghaus’ MADEKIND initiative, featuring bluesign® approved Colourkind™ eco-friendly fabric. During production, the Colourkind™ dyeing process uses 89% less water and 63% fewer chemicals than standard dyeing methods.
