Canterbury and Georgia rugby launch new teamwear partnership

On Wednesday 1st February, Canterbury and the Georgia Rugby Union officially launched the new Team Wear partnership in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The Georgia National Rugby team, The Lelos, have signed a supply agreement which will run up until December 2020 including the RWC’19 in Japan. Later this year, Georgia will host the Junior World championships, with CCC kitting out all officials for the duration of the popular event.

Aligned to Canterbury’s passion for Rugby, the Georgia Rugby Union has heritage etched into their DNA, their values reflecting Canterbury’s commitment to the game.

The launch ceremony was attended by all key sponsors, national media and included and appearance from the Governor for Sport. Both David Khmaldze and Mamuka Gorgodze were on hand to reveal the kit.

The kit design has taken inspiration from the fighting legends of Georgian history, with an emphasis on the symbolic status of the vine branch. Working in partnership with the Union, the home kit boasts a shade of maroon, known officially as ‘wine’, and is also trimmed in gold. All kits feature the Georgia Rugby Union logo ‘Borjghali’ on the left chest and the Canterbury Logo positioned to the right.

From the first meeting at the design table It was essential to stay true to legend of Georgian warriors and the passion of The Lelos. This is highlighted through the historical symbolism of the grape vine, placed on the yoke of the jersey, carrying them onto the field of battle. The Vine will only be on the Senior kits, as a status and recognition of representing Georgia. This kit is designed to bond the nation together, every player and supporter a like fighting for the same crest, colour and goal.

TBC Bank, the main kit sponsor, is retailing the kit for the GRU in Georgia. They have launched the first ever retail site for the GRU and will be showcasing all national team products.
