Berghaus has today announced it’s become B Corp certified and has pledged to use this status as a catalyst to strive for even higher social and environmental standards.
As a B Corporation, the brand joins the globally recognised community that use business for good and pledges to continue improving its approach to responsible business practices.
Positive business actions
Berghaus was awarded B Corp status after a rigorous assessment that covered governance, workers, community, customers, and environment.
The B Corp ratings provide trusted testament that Berghaus is tracking in the right direction. This extends a thread that goes back to the brand’s foundation in 1966 and over half a century of making long-lasting and repairable gear. Today, Berghaus still offers its free repairs service (Repairhaus), and its dedication to quality and durability remain as strong as ever.
Berghaus also backs initiatives that enhance accessibility to the outdoors for underrepresented groups, supporting The Outward Bound Trust, It’s Great Out There Coalition, Millimetres 2 Mountains and Black Girls Hike. Berghaus is also a partner of organisations that conserve the outdoor environment, including The John Muir Trust and the European Outdoor Conservation Association.
Pentland Brands 100-1-0 strategy
Berghaus is the first brand in the Pentland Brands portfolio to achieve the sought-after status. This achievement aligns with our 100-1-0 strategy to take positive action for people and the planet, and sets the stage for more of our brands to follow in Berghaus’ footsteps.
Berghaus is committed to ethical trading and through Pentland Brands, works with global organisations to protect and enable workers’ rights, and minimise the environmental impact of making its products.
Wider industry commitment
On the certification, Charlie Pym, Berghaus brand director, comments: “We’re proud to be B Corp certified. Quite rightly, there’s a high bar for achieving it, and we’ve worked extremely hard to show that we’re worthy of the status. This process also highlights areas we need to improve, which is critical for our continued progress. Our mission is to open up the outdoors because that’s where the best of life is lived.
“B Corp certification is not the beginning of our journey, and it’s far from the end, but it’s another significant step forward in striving to make the world a better place with Berghaus in it. Everything we’re currently doing is in service of inspiring more people to spend more time in nature.”
Berghaus is committed to improving its B Corp scores, particularly within the community and environment categories, and using its B Corp status and insights to promote wider outdoor industry initiatives that address social and environmental challenges.
