Pentland Brands has won a prestigious award in recognition of our long-running charitable contributions to In Kind Direct.
The charity, which was founded in 1997 by HRH The Prince of Wales, launched the awards to celebrate their 20th anniversary, and has presented our chairman Andy Rubin with the ‘Pro Bono Support by a Product Donor’ award.
‘We’re honoured that Pentland has been recognised for its contribution to In Kind Direct’s amazing work,’ says Andy. ‘Giving back is baked into our DNA. By working with In Kind Direct we can donate excess product that is then distributed by charities throughout the UK across the whole spectrum of where it’s needed most, including hospices, homeless shelters and care homes.
‘We trust them to ensure our products get to those most in need.’
In Kind Direct distributes consumer goods donated by companies to UK charities working in the UK and overseas.
Pentland Brands was an early adopter of product donation philanthropy, and made its first donation – some Berghaus outdoor gear – back in 2000.
Over the past 17 years, we have been a leading product donor, with the total estimated retail value of our donations at £2.4million. 2,135 charities across the country have already benefited from these donations.
The Pro Bono Support award is specifically to recognise non-cash support provided by companies in the form of volunteer and donated professional services. Pentland has provided a huge amount of pro bono support, including marketing services and expert advice on customer insight and design.
‘The impact Andy has made as a Trustee and ambassador for In Kind Direct over many years has been tremendous. But as well as Andy’s personal support, this award recognises everything that so many talented people at Pentland have done to support us,’ says Robin Boles, Chief Executive of In Kind Direct:
‘Pentland staff have helped In Kind Direct with brilliant animations, provided lots of design time and advice, sorted and prepared products at our warehouse, sponsored our interns, joined In Kind Direct committees and offered their creative talent and sports equipment for our Big Community Picnic last August too.
‘We are hugely grateful to Andy, and everyone at Pentland Brands, for their longstanding and continuing support, which has contributed so much to us reaching this 20-year milestone.’
