This is a unique opportunity for a successful candidate to work within the Commercial business unit of Pentland’s Legal team, providing key legal and business support to Pentland’s business development and sales teams both in the UK and internationally. The role will focus on a range of contractual and advisory legal support including international distribution, licensing, negotiating retailer terms and conditions and advising on competition law related issues.

 

The role you’d play as Senior Legal Counsel

 

  • Partner with and advise sales and commercial teams on day-to-day legal issues, contracts, and general operational issues.
  • Work closely with the UK and EMEA sales team in negotiating Terms and Conditions of sale with customers / partners of all sizes, from major fashion and sports retailers through to niche high street independents bringing the Pentland operating model to life through a legal framework which manages risk.
  • Work with Business Development teams across EMEA to prepare and negotiate agreements with new and existing distribution partners. 
  • Provide on-going advice on competition law compliance to sales and business development teams across EMEA. Also assist in delivering and maintaining Pentland’s world class competition law training programme to teams across the business.
  • Work with Credit Team in managing financial risk of third-party customers/ distributors.

 

What you’d bring as Senior Legal Counsel

 

  • Minimum 4 years PQE gained within a reputable law firm or equivalent in-house legal environment.
  • Strong commercial contract experience, particularly negotiating distribution and licensing arrangements.
  • A working knowledge of European and UK competition law.
  • Preferably experience working within a retail or FMCG environment with some wholesale business model experience.
  • Highly team-oriented with an ability to develop relationships both within and outside the legal department.
  • Confident and clear communicator.
  • Commercially savvy with excellent business judgment and strategic thinking capability.
