WHAT’S THE MISSION FOR THIS ROLE?
As a key member of the Rapid Prototyping team, you will be responsible for the pattern cutting & manufacturing of garment samples and product prototypes working with the Design, Development and Innovation teams in Pentland Brands. Reporting into the RPC and Product Concept Manager, you will provide an invaluable service to help our creative teams originate and conceptualise their ideas and designs into items to test fit, form and function
WHAT DOES THIS ROLE DO?
As our Product Concept Technologist and Pattern Cutter you will be responsible for:
- Lead the development of patterns, prototypes, samples, and construction guidelines, delivering high-precision outputs within tight deadlines in a dynamic atelier environment. Servicing full brand portfolio as the technical centre of excellence.
- Lead on continuously refining fit and optimising construction methods
- Collaborate closely with NPI, Design, and Product Development teams to align technical execution with creative vision, adhering to agreed timelines and concept requirements.
- Oversee and maintain a comprehensive prototype, sample, and pattern block library, ensuring consistency and best-in-class standards.
- Drive innovation in new product development by partnering with the RPC & Product Concept Team Lead, contributing to the evolution of key product and technology platforms.
- Bring expertise of industry best standard practice,
- Identify and implement emerging technologies such as digital pattern cutting, 3D printing, and advanced construction techniques to push the boundaries of product innovation.
- Provide expert guidance to cross-functional design and innovation teams, solving complex technical challenges related to construction, performance, fit, and function.
- Ensure prototypes and samples meet Pentland’s quality and performance standards, delivering commercially viable solutions.
- Support external production partners and suppliers, proactively identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency and create competitive advantages.
- Partner with our NPI leads to work with consumer groups, translating insights into refined product iterations, ensuring customer needs and market trends are central to decision-making and product engineering
- Oversee material and component inventory within the Sample Room, ensuring optimal resource management and maintenance of sampling equipment.
WHAT DO I BRING TO THE ROLE?
To stand out in this role, you should have the following skills and experience:
- Proven expertise (minimum 5 years) in pattern cutting, construction techniques, and problem-solving within a global activewear or performance-driven apparel brand, with proficiency in Lectra Modaris.
- A degree or equivalent qualification in textile product design and development, or substantial industry experience demonstrating technical mastery.
- A proven track record of driving innovative solutions to design challenges, contributing to breakthrough product development.
- Expert-level skill in pattern cutting and garment fitting for both men’s and women’s apparel, ensuring superior fit and functionality.
- Advanced proficiency in industrial sewing machines and bonding equipment, with a deep understanding of their applications.
- Strong knowledge of the activewear and outdoor markets, including technical fabric construction techniques such as waterproof Gore-Tex and bonded stretch fabrics.
- An exceptional eye for detail, combined with comprehensive knowledge of contemporary and emerging construction methodologies.
- Experience in prototyping facility management, including machinery maintenance and resource optimisation.
- Proficiency in PLM tools for product development, data management, presentation, and reporting.
- Demonstrated success in cross-functional collaboration, with strong communication skills tailored to diverse audiences and cultural contexts.
- The ability to work independently and strategically, prioritising tasks effectively while maintaining meticulous attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
