We have a great opportunity for a qualified accountant with extensive experience as a management accountant or in a senior Central finance role to take on a newly created senior position within the Finance team.

You will be leading Pentland’s management accounts teams to deliver the numbers that underpin all Pentland financial reporting.

Working globally, within the One Finance pillar gameplan, you will ensure that all key processes and controls are performed and agreed outputs to multiple stakeholders are delivered consistently.

You will also play a role in managing / influencing the constant change flowing through as new initiatives are implemented within the business and incorporating into accounting systems require reporting upon.

The role you’d play: 

  • Responsible for delivery of the key outputs required of the global management accounting teams, including:
    • Month end close procedures - Month end tasks performed in line with agreed timetables and methods, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow;
    • Accurate reporting and variance analysis for Sales & Margin, Royalty, Direct and Functional costs – Reviewing key outputs interpreting information and highlighting matters arising / causes for concern;
    • Working with key finance stakeholders to deliver effective transfer of information included in the actuals and variances helping to contextualise the information for the implications for the full year outlook;
    • Cash flow movements and balance sheet recs and where necessary – forecasting;
    • Issuing external invoicing in defined areas;
    • Issuing reports to external parties in line with relevant agreements.
  • Shaping and defining management accounts processes.
  • Accounting policy / process ownership in key areas to ensure control and consistency across regions / brands to enable effective reporting through automated platforms.
  • Taking a lead role in managing and coordinating changing process and procedures required as a result of Strategic business decisions through active participation in project teams and managing roll out within team(s).
  • Applying accounting judgement to business issues that arise, form pragmatic solutions that are both practical and compliant but also commercially viable.
  • Ensuring that our incoming data from third parties such as THG and Marketplaces has the necessary accuracy and integrity so it is reliable.
  • Owning the balance sheet integrity for Pentland SAP entities.
  • Promoting a culture of rigorous controls across all accounting processes and monitoring the implementation of said controls and feeding back and fixing issues where they arise.
  • Ensuring accounts are Audit clean and compliant with local laws and regulations
  • Delivering through others and as part of the wider Global finance team.
  • Creating a global team ethos - driving consistency and coordination of management accounting across regions to deliver the most efficient and effective team possible.
  • Being an active member of Finance leadership maintaining high quality relationships with both financial and non-financial stakeholders whose activities have consequential impacts on financial accuracy.
  • Influencing said stakeholders to operate in a way consistent with optimum financial control and consistent and coordinated procedures.
  • Leading, coaching and mentoring junior members of the team to help them develop while delivering business objectives.

What you’d bring

  • Experience in a senior management accountant role
  • Qualification in Accountancy with several years post qual experience
  • Experience in analysing accounting performance in a commercial environment in a multi-region business
  • Ability to analyse and interpret large amounts of data
  • Ownership of strong control process, documenting processes
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with ability to articulate finance to non-finance customers
  • A positive and confident approach to getting things done within a very demanding environment
