Berghaus launches ‘Dean Street’ heritage collection

This week, Berghaus launches ‘Dean Street’: a collection celebrating Berghaus’ heritage and exploring its rich archive dating back to the 1980s.

Paying homage to the brand’s original birthplace of Newcastle, the collection embodies a sense of nostalgia. Classic pieces such as the Windshirt ’90, the Pole ’87 insulated jacket and the Tramantana ‘91 fleece are re-released as part of the range, alongside accessories including the Rockstar ‘90 backpack and the Blitz bumbag ’85.

James Hodgson, Berghaus Head of Design, says, “We’re proud to be launching this truly unique collection, which is a recreation of products picked directly from our late ‘80s and early ‘90s archives – a time when Berghaus earned its reputation as the original outdoor innovator. With Dean Street, we want to re-introduce everyone to the brand’s classic designs. The range will appeal to those who want to stand out from the crowd and have a unique style, inspired by the past, but remixed for today.”

Each style is modelled on the iconic original designs, incorporating logos and trims from each original piece. Red, blue and yellow pallets from the Berghaus Extrem collection, which debuted in the 90s, are seen alongside blue, purple and pink pulled straight from the brand’s 80s pallets. A further two new colours have been introduced including beige with brights and classic black, grey and red.

Berghaus originally made its debut in 1966 in a mountaineering shop on Newcastle’s Dean street. At a time when outdoor wear, as we know, it did not exist, Berghaus was at the forefront of outdoor innovation and embraced by climbers and youth culture alike.

The Dean Street collection will launch on Berghaus.com on 14th October, and is also available on ASOS, Urban Outfitters, Scotts and size?.
